Find the right Maricopa County criminal record source

Maricopa County criminal records are held by different courts and agencies. The correct route depends on whether you need a Superior Court case record, a Justice Court or municipal court record, a certified court document, or an Arizona criminal-history service.

A name or case-number lookup is not the same as obtaining a document. Before requesting records, identify the court, case number, document information, and whether you need an uncertified copy or a certified record. A docket or case-information result is not a copy of the underlying document. Minute Entries are a separate court record route, and criminal minute-entry availability is limited rather than universal access to all criminal documents.

Superior Court records, eAccess, and document requests

Arizona eAccess provides access to eligible Superior Court cases filed on or after July 1, 2010 when records are available and not restricted. The threshold applies to cases filed on or after that date, not a general statement that every document was filed after that date.

eAccess requires account registration and authentication. Available account types include individual, organization, and government access. Document access costs $10 per document. Pay-as-you-go electronically certified documents cost $45, and subscriber certified documents cost $35. Purchased documents have a 24-hour download window.

Electronic certification may not satisfy every recipient. Some organizations may require a raised-seal paper copy.

ECR, Justice Court, and municipal court record routes

Maricopa ECR Online is a separate access path. ECR access is limited to registered parties and attorneys of record. The online authentication path requires Arizona driver-license authentication. Party or attorney access does not unlock sealed or confidential records. ECR printouts are uncertified.

If ECR access does not provide the needed record, use the Clerk Online Records Request Form and provide available case or document identifiers. Certified documents require the appropriate official request route.

Justice Court records are separate from Superior Court records. Requests go to the specific Justice Court holding the case. Justice Courts do not perform background checks. Justice Court case files cost $0.50 per page and certification is $33 per document. Municipal courts are separate systems and records must be requested from the court holding the case.

Arizona DPS criminal history records are different from court records

Arizona DPS criminal-history services are not the same product as public court records. DPS criminal-history copies are restricted to authorized individuals or agencies.

Personal review is an individual's own-record process and requires fingerprint-based own-record review. If a person needs to challenge information in their own record, the DPS review and challenge process applies. Local clearance requests are directed to local law enforcement rather than the statewide repository.

Copies, certified records, and next actions

For missing, older, or certified documents, use the Clerk Online Records Request Form with available case or document identifiers. Clerk requests are separate from docket lookup.

Clerk record requests include $0.50 per page copies, $35 certification, and possible locating or research fees depending on the request.
